Man accused of killing teen after boy laughed at his misfortune

GARY, IN -- An Indiana man is accused of shooting a 13-year-old nine times after the boy laughed that the man's home had been burglarized.

The suspect returned to his Gary home to find his home had been burglarized. A group of neighbors gathered after he started yelling. Kobe Jones, 13, started laughing at the suspect. According to witnesses, the suspect became enraged and shot Jones nine times.

Jones' stepmother, Starr Jones, said, "The death of a child is horrible. Nobody plans to bury their child at 13 years old. No one was planning for a funeral."

The suspect fled the scene after the shooting, but returned later and was arrested.

Gary is a troubled city often called "Scary Gary." It has lost more than half its population in the past half century.
