Man charged with attempted murder in stabbings of wife, child

WEST OAK LANE (WPVI) -- The man who, police say, stabbed his wife and 21-month-old daughter in West Oak Lane is back in Philadelphia facing upgraded charges.

Stephen Burton, 41, allegedly attacked his family on the 19-hundred block of Dallas Street early Sunday morning.

Police now say Burton also tried to stab his 4-year-old son, but his wife stopped him.

Stephen Burton was arrested in Maryland hours later.

He now faces several charges, including one count of attempted murder.

His wife, 37-year-old Danecia Berrian Burton, and the child, were taken to the hospital in critical condition.
