MANTUA (WPVI) -- Philadelphia Police tell Action News a man who was shot multiple times in the city's Mantua section is clinging to life.

The gunfire erupted at 9:15 p.m. Monday in the 3900 block of Brown Street.

Officers arrived to find a 40-year-old man lying in the street. Initial reports indicated he had been shot 13 times.

Police rushed the man to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he underwent surgery for gunshot wounds to the torso, groin and legs.

He is listed in critical condition.

Investigators are working to determine who shot the man and why.

There have been no arrests.
