Man shot 6 times likely paralyzed, gunman sought

WEST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police say a man who was shot six times in West Philadelphia will likely be paralyzed as the hunt is on for the gunman.

The shooting happened around 2:15 p.m. Friday in the 5000 block of Haverford Avenue.

Officers arrived to find the victim, 49-year-old Edward Lynn, on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds.

He was rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania with wounds to his legs, shoulder and right side.

"He has no movement in his lower extremities. For someone who was totally active, they've taken a lot from him at this point," said said Michelle Lynn, victim's wife.

Lynn's wife, a police dispatcher, says her husband was simply going to get a sandwich last Friday afternoon when he was shot.

Surveillance video released by police shows the suspect inside a grocery store on the corner of Farson Street and Haverford Avenue.

Investigators say it appears that Lynn unknowingly brushed against the gunman inside the tiny store.

After Lynn walked to his car, the shooter and two accomplices shouted at him.

That's when Lynn returned and was punched in the face, second later, he was shot.

"It's not like they don't know who did it. We lived in that neighborhood for years, so everybody around there in that neighborhood knows my son and my other son and my family," said Colby McQueen, victim's mother.

Police have received several tips about the shooting and they say it's only a matter of time before the suspect is apprehended.
