WASHINGTON, D.C. (WPVI) -- The White House was locked down for around 45 minutes Friday afternoon after a man carrying a gun near the complex was shot by Secret Service agents, a senior administration official said.

Officials say an armed man approached a checkpoint outside the White House grounds just after 3 p.m., and ignored repeated orders to drop his gun.

A Secret Service officer fired one shot, critically wounding the suspect.

He's been identified as Jesse Oliveri of Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.

Investigators pored over every inch of a Toyota parked nearby, finding ammunition inside.

Only Vice President Joe Biden was inside the White House during the hour-long lockdown.

Secret Service was on extra alert as President Obama's motorcade returned home.
