Nurses unionize at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children

PHILADELPHIA -- Nurses at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in Philadelphia have voted to unionize.

The Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals says voting concluded Wednesday and about 500 of the North Philadelphia hospital's nurses will become part of the union.

They join the 1,200 nurses at Hahnemann University Hospital and Delaware County Memorial Hospital who've voted to unionize in recent months. They've cited staffing and scheduling issues in the push to unionize.

St. Christopher's, like Hahnemann, is owned by Tenet Healthcare, one of the nation's largest for-profit hospital operators.
