A Philadelphia police officer was injured in a three-vehicle crash in the city's Germantown section early Thursday morning.

GERMANTOWN -- A Philadelphia police officer was injured in a three-vehicle crash in the city's Germantown section early Thursday morning.

The accident happened just before 1:00 a.m. on the 6000 block of Chew Avenue.

Investigators say the injured officer was responding to an assault call when he collided with a SUV and then another nearby car.

The officer was taken to Roxborough Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the third car was also hospitalized.

There was no immediate word what caused the collision.
