Authorities say a police officer pursuing a shooting suspect was struck by the fleeing vehicle in North Philadelphia.

NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Authorities say a police officer pursuing a shooting suspect was struck by the fleeing vehicle in North Philadelphia.

It happened around 5:00 p.m. Saturday in the 2300 block of North Fairhill Street.

Officers responded to the report of a man in his 20s shot multiple times.

Police tried to stop the suspect's car as it fled the scene.

In the 100 block of West Cambria Street, police say an officer was struck by the fleeing vehicle.

The driver of that vehicle was later apprehended and is in police custody.

The officer was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. He was treated and released.

The shooting victim was taken to Temple University Hospital in critical but stable condition. No word yet on a motive for the shooting.

Investigators say a gun was recovered at the scene.

Police continue to investigate.
