A police officer purposely drove his cruiser in front of a stolen car after an earlier near miss in Wilmington.

WILMINGTON (WPVI) -- A police officer purposely drove his cruiser in front of a stolen car after an earlier near miss in Wilmington.

It happened around 11:20 a.m. Wednesday on the 600 block of Washington Street.

Police say a Wilmington police officer was driving in a marked police car when he was almost hit by another vehicle, later determined to be stolen.

After the near miss, those inside the stolen car fled while the vehicle was still in drive.

As the stolen vehicle was left traveling down the 400 block of West 6th Street, the police officer moved his car in front of the vehicle to stop it.

The crash caused minor damage to the police vehicle. The police officer was not injured.

The suspects were able to get away.
