Hanging noose found at Duke University

DURHAM, N.C. (WPVI) -- Officials at Duke University cut down a noose hanging from a tree on campus early Wednesday morning.

The rope was found around 2:45 a.m. in Bryant Center Plaza on the North Carolina campus.

Larry Moneta the Vice President for Student Affairs sent out an email to students this morning.

"I can't begin to describe the disgust and anger I felt and I still feel," Moneta says.

He continues to say, "Though it has since been removed, the photos are everywhere and its hateful message will sadly pervade and persist for a long time.

The school is investigating.

The Duke University Police Department has not yet commented on this situation.
