Three sanitation workers are recovering after the trash truck they were riding in crashed and overturned.

JUNIATA PARK (WPVI) -- Three sanitation workers are recovering after the trash truck they were riding in crashed and overturned in the Juniata Park section of Philadelphia.

It happened at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday on East Hunting Park Avenue at L Street.

Police tell Action News the driver told investigators he swerved to avoid an oncoming compact car.

The truck flipped onto the driver's side and struck a mailbox, a utility pole and a fence.

The 58-year-old driver was taken to Temple University Hospital to be treated for head, back and neck pain.

Two passengers in the truck were also taken to area hospitals.

A 39-year-old man was taken to Temple with a broken forearm and possible rib fractures.

And a 58-year-old man was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital to be checked out for head, neck and back pain.

East Hunting Park Avenue was closed in both directions from K Street to Dungan Street for more than two hours as police investigated and crews worked to remove the truck.
