SEPTA has suspended service on its Wilmington-Newark Regional Rail line after reports that an Amtrak train struck a person.

PROSPECT PARK (WPVI) -- Rail service has been restored after an Amtrak train struck and killed a person on the tracks in Prospect Park, Delaware County.

Amtrak says a Washington, D.C.-bound Acela Express train was involved in the incident around 7:30 a.m. Monday.

Police have not released the victim's name. They did not provide details on why the person was on the tracks.

Service on SEPTA's Wilmington/Newark Line, which operates on the same tracks, was halted for about 90 minutes.

Philadelphia-bound service resumed around 9:15 a.m. Delaware-bound trains remain suspended.

Amtrak trains were also delayed.

The train involved in the incident arrived in Wilmington, Delaware an hour and 43 minutes behind schedule.

SEPTA posted alternate routes for commuters affected by the temporary service suspension on its website.
