PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police seized 60 vehicles and made three arrests during a citywide crackdown Sunday to get illegal dirt bikes and ATVs off the streets.

During a news conference, police said a crash that left a child injured illustrates the dangers of ATVs and dirt bikes in the city.

The initiative is part of a coordinated effort by police all across the city.

The crackdown is designed to make the city streets safer.

"It's definitely a quality of life issue, and as the police department we feel that when we stop these ATVs or we confiscate them, that we're saving lives," said Philadelphia Police Lt. Marc Hayes.

Dirt bikes and ATVs are illegal in Philadelphia unless driven on private property.

Since police started their crackdown this year, officials say more than 200 vehicles have been seized.
