Students grade lunch program
Philadelphia students conduct a mock audit of school's lunch program

PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia students got an opportunity to do a mock audit of their school's lunch program and present their findings today.

With help from the City Controller's staff, the students from the Charter High School for Architecture and Design set out to see if their cafeteria meals met national nutrition standards.

They found the servings offered did meet federal guidelines for weekly portions but think the school should put more information online.

Student Dejean Newton recommended "That the school make readily available the nutritional content of each meal and a break down of its components in order to give students the most information possible."

It's not all good news though.

The students failed the school for not giving them access to the food-services contract, so they couldn't calculate how much the meals cost.

All of the participants are part of the controller's mentor program.
