More than a dozen people were taken into custody during a warrant sweep early Wednesday morning in Montgomery County.

Sheriff's deputies fanned out in the overnight hours looking for more than 50 people. In the end, 17 were arrested.

The suspects were wanted on various charges, including domestic violence, identity theft and unpaid child support.

Montgomery County Sheriff J. Russell Bono said the sweep was part of the the 13th Annual National Family Violence Apprehension Detail, a nationwide effort to raise awareness of the problem of family and domestic violence.

"Every day, distraught domestic violence victims come to our office to have their protection orders served by our deputies in an effort to stop the abuse," Bono said in a statement. "In some cases, our deputies are asked to escort the victims throughout the courthouse, or to their car out of fear of confronting their abusers during court hearings.

"It's a reminder of why we continue to serve these victims with compassion, and do anything else we can to support them," he continued.
