Police: Jersey shore boater's disappearance possibly staged

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. (WPVI) -- Police are investigating the possibility that a missing boater at the Jersey shore staged his disappearance.

45-year-old Andrew Biddle has been missing since July 20th after his pontoon boat hit rocks in Longport.

Police say it's possible the Biddle staged the accident to escape criminal charges in another matter.

The accident came as a shock to many who knew him because Biddle is an experienced boater and has even won professional races.

The possibility comes as new information surfaces that he was being investigated for theft and fraud.

Authorities say they will go ahead with the criminal charges until they know for sure where Biddle is.
