HARRINGTON, Del. -- Delaware State Police say a Felton man fired a shotgun in the direction of police during a four-hour search for him that followed an alleged assault.

Police have charged 29-year-old Steven Tribbett with reckless endangerment, strangulation and other offenses.

Police say Tribbett pushed his girlfriend to the ground on Saturday afternoon at a home in Harrington and then placed his knee across her neck, cutting off her airway. She was able to escape and locked herself in a car.

Officers searched for Tribbett for four hours in the woods behind the home before calling off the operation. During the search, police say Tribbett fired a shotgun, which police later recovered.

He was arrested after police say he returned to the scene of the assault and another 911 call was made.
