Police: Upper Darby mom beat son for not doing chores

UPPER DARBY, Pa. (WPVI) -- An Upper Darby mother is accused of beating her 11-year-old son because he didn't do his chores.

Police say 39-year-old Samantha Starnes lashed the boy with a belt more than two dozen times at their home on Radbourne Road.

The child walked to a community policing center for help on Tuesday where officers found welts on his back, arms and legs.

He's staying with another family member while his mother remains in custody.
