Police have arrested the man who they say struck a Good Samaritan at a gas station in Upper Chichester, Delaware County.

UPPER CHICHESTER, Pa. (WPVI) -- Police have arrested the man who they say struck a Good Samaritan at a gas station in Upper Chichester, Delaware County.

It happened around 9:40 at the Shell gas station located on the 3300 block of Market Street.

Authorities say 31-year-old Shawn McGinness entered a Shell Gas station, displayed a knife, and demanded money from the clerk.

He allegedly walked behind the counter and grabbed cash from the register before fleeing the store and hopping into a 2005-2011 black Volvo V50.

But as the thief ran from the scene, it was a customer inside the store who chased after him.

Witnesses say the customer tried to pull the thief from his getaway car, but it didn't work.

Robert Convery watched the incident unfold from across the street. He explains, "When the gentleman jumped out, the car backed up, he went underneath the car. And then the car proceeded to go forward and ran him over."

Dave Bratten pulled up moments later and saw firsthand just how badly the victim was injured.

"He was holding his neck and his arm," Bratten said. "And the police officer I spoke with actually said that he think he broke his arm and that he was on the way to the hospital right there."

The victim, who employees say is a friend of the store owner, was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
