WINSLOW TWP., N.J. (WPVI) -- Investigators say a police officer shot his own patrol car last month in Winslow Township, Camden County.

That officer - Da'Shaun Carr, 23, of Clayton - was charged with a third-degree count for a false public alarm.

The charge stems from the shooting on October 3rd at 8:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Erial Road near New Brooklyn Park.

Authorities say Carr activated an emergency button in his patrol car and radioed in that someone had fired at his vehicle.

Investigators found a bullet had gone through the windshield of Carr's patrol vehicle. Bullet fragments were found inside the car, police said.

Police say they now believe Carr used a personal handgun to shoot the vehicle once from the outside.

They did not say why Carr allegedly fired at his vehicle.

Carr, a part-time officer who had been with the department for about one year, has been suspended without pay.
