Police: Suspect tried to run over Toms River officer

TOMS RIVER, N.J. (WPVI) -- Police have arrested a man who they say tried to run over an officer in Toms River, New Jersey.

The incident happened around 4:15 Wednesday afternoon at the Grande Woodlands Development.

Officers on foot approached a vehicle they believed to be involved in drug activity.

Authorities say the driver of the car, 24-year-old Shamar Kerr, tried to run over an officer.

The officer being targeted was able to fire his weapon however Kerr got away on foot.

Kerr, of Jackson, New Jersey, was taken into custody Wednesday evening. He faces attempted murder and drug related charges.

Bail has been set at $500,000.
