GLENOLDEN, Pa. (WPVI) -- The teen boy who was struck by lightning in Glenolden, Delaware County has been released from the hospital.

It happened around 8:00 p.m. Monday on the unit block of East Ashland Avenue.

"I'm just happy to be alive. I can't believe this happened," said David Bodkin-Parris.

The 14-year-old was just leaving his mother's home when the lightning hit.

"I just walked to my friend's car, I was running and I heard it. Then I was shocked and shaking and bleeding everywhere," he said.

David was taken to Crozer Chester Medical Center and later transferred to A.I. Dupont Hospital where he was released Tuesday afternoon.

His mother says doctors told her that the rubber soles of David's shoes probably helped protect him from even more injury.

David says he just got the shoes recently from a friend.
