UPPER DARBY, Pa. (WPVI) -- Police raided a home in Delaware County on Monday after a man took a woman hostage.

Action News obtained video of the SWAT team swarming a home on Cloverdale Avenue in Upper Darby on Monday.

Police say they received a call from a woman inside, saying she had been badly beaten by a man she met the night before.

The woman told officers the suspect said he 'wouldn't be taken alive' and was armed with a rifle.

The neighborhood and two schools were locked down as a precaution.

One neighbor tells Action News she realized how serious it was when she saw the Upper Darby police superintendent taking part in the rescue.

The suspect surrendered from the basement when police threatened to send a police dog after him.

The victim suffered multiple injuries, including a broken jaw.
