MIDDLETOWN, Del. (WPVI) -- A construction project is ruffling feathers and kicking up dust in Delaware.

The issue is the road work on Route 301 in Middletown.

It is expected to improve safety and reduce traffic congestion.

But people who live in the Spring Arbor community are concerned about the amount of dust falling on their homes and the possible health effects for the residents who are mostly 55 and older.

"When the wind is going toward our homes, our homes are saturated with particulate matter. We can't go out in our backyards, our porches are disgusting; we can't keep up with cleaning them," resident Patricia Pecht said.

DelDOT tells Action News there is no way to eliminate the dust altogether.

They do have water trucks running continuously to help and they have passed weekly environmental inspections.

They say anyone with a complaint should contact the project's contractor.
