Robbery suspect flees into Sheraton Society Hill

SOCIETY HILL (WPVI) -- Police are searching for a robbery suspect who ran into a Philadelphia hotel to evade authorities.

The incident began around 2:45 a.m. Sunday when a National Park Service Park Ranger observed a man armed with a gun wanted in connection with a recent robbery walking near the intersection of 3rd and Dock streets.

The ranger ordered the suspect to drop his weapon, but the man fled. The ranger chased the man on foot into the Sheraton Philadelphia Society Hill Hotel located at 1 Dock Street.

Officers from various police departments sealed off the entrances while a K9 unit was brought in to search the hotel.

However, the suspect was not located.

An off-duty police officer from the Camden County Metro Police Department discovered a magazine clip from the man's gun in the 200 block of Dock Street.

The incident is under investigation.
