Search suspended for missing swimmer in Delaware River in Bristol

BRISTOL, Pa. (WPVI) -- Crews have suspended their search for a man who never resurfaced after jumping into the Delaware River in Bristol, Bucks County.

Family members have identified him as Marquis 'Mack' Richardson of Virginia.

Richardson was in town visiting. His family from Camden rushed to the scene.

"They suspended the dive, the current got rougher," said Steve Cowan, relative.

According to police the 22-year-old was with friends when he went into the river near the Bristol Wharf shortly after 10:00 a.m. Sunday.

He then disappeared under the water.

Witnesses described the scene.

"The male subject was yelling for help from the buoy. He yelled three times then went under and never came up," said Joseph Lentz.

"By the buoy, I heard a guy say, 'Help' and he went down. He was trying to swim back," said Enriquo Favorito.

The water rescue quickly turned into a recovery effort.

The Point Pleasant Dive Team and multiple Bucks County fire departments joined in the search along with New Jersey State Police.

Richardson's relatives say they will continue to pray for the best.

"Even though they stopped the search and had been out there since this morning, I still think there's hope. I believe in God," said Judy Cowan.

No word if the search will resume on Monday.

A second man also went missing while swimming in the Delaware River in Burlington, New Jersey. His body was recovered Sunday evening.
