Shooting victim crashes enroute to hospital in West Philadelphia

WEST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A shooting victim is hospitalized in critical condition after being involved in a traffic accident on the way to the hospital.

The shooting happened just before 1:00 a.m. Monday in the 5600 block of Catherine Street in West Philadelphia.

Police say the victim was shot in the back as he sat on a porch. A bullet also went through a screen of the home.

Someone then helped the man into a car to go to the hospital. A half block away, that car collided with another car.

The victim is now hospitalized in critical condition.

A 31-year-old woman in the other car was also hurt.

Police, who recovered 11 shell casings at the shooting scene, are looking for the triggerman.

There was no immediate word what may have led to the shooting.
