NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police raided a home in Northeast Philadelphia on Wednesday, and our cameras were there as they led several people away in handcuffs.
A Philadelphia Police source says the raid is part of an ongoing sex assault investigation, and sources in the Attorney General's office say the Child Predator Unit is involved.
Neighbors looked out this morning to see police and other investigators - some wearing bulletproof vests - surrounding, then going into a home on the 4400 block of Aberdale Street in Holmesburg.
Mary, who lives nearby, tells us, "I thought, Holy Mackerel! I thought somebody was dead or being murdered in there and then I noticed the state car across the street."
She's talking about the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General Special Investigation vehicle that was parked out front.
Action News has learned from sources that the state is heading up some kind of sex-related investigation - and this home may be among others raided in the last two days.
Investigators appeared to take away possible evidence. Then they took four people out of the home in handcuffs.
Neighbors identified two of them as the female homeowner and her juvenile son. They were joined by a young woman and a young man.
Neighbors said they see people coming and going from the house at all hours, and the police are called at least once a month.
Another neighbor, Marianne, says, "I don't know. It's like a crazy house in the middle of a quiet neighborhood. So you kind of notice everything that's going on."
Jim Schwendiman says, "There's always cops here. There's cops here all the time. Traffic in and out and there's cops."
However, neighbors have never seen a police presence like the one seen today.
Police have not officially released details pertaining to the investigation.
