SOUTHWEST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police have arrested the man who allegedly attacked a SEPTA transit police sergeant Monday night.

Thirty-nine-year-old Sorrel Groves was charged Wednesday night with Aggravated Assault, Resisting Arrest, Defiant Trespass and related offenses.

Police say Groves is a career criminal with arrests going back to 1997, including a prior on a Philadelphia police officer in June of 2008.

The attack happened around 7:30 p.m. at 58th Street and Angora Terrace in Southwest Philadelphia.

Several officers were called to the Angora station for a complaint of individuals in the restricted area.

The video shows the female officer responding to the call.

She stops the vehicle and gets out. Within moments she confronts the suspect, but just as quickly the man shoves her to the ground.

But while assaulting the officer, an image of the suspect's face fills the screen of her body camera.

The officer assaulted, Sgt. Lynn Perrone, has been released from the hospital and is now home recovering from her injuries.
