Spotted lanternfly found in Montgomery, Bucks counties

Two local townships are under quarantine, after the spotted lanternfly was found living in those areas.

The spotted lanternfly is native to Southeast Asia, but showed up in Berks County last fall.

Officials said it has no known impacts to human health, but it attacks several plant species native to Pennsylvania.

The quarantine affects areas of Upper Hanover Township in Montgomery Count and Oley Township in Berks County.

If you see the bug, or its eggs, you're asked to place them in hand sanitizer to kill them, then turn them over to state officials.
