PLACENTIA, Calif. -- Police in Placentia, Calif. have responded to El Dorado High School after students found a teacher hanging in a classroom.

Authorities responded to a 911 call at the school at 8:34 a.m. Monday and found the unidentified teacher in full cardiac arrest.

"Paramedics performed life-saving measures, however, after several minutes, the victim was declared deceased at the scene," the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District said in a statement.

Police say students found that their classroom was locked, so they notified another teacher. After the discovery, the teacher and students attempted to let her down from where she was hanging.

When paramedics arrived, the teacher had been taken down.

Students were taken to the gymnasium, where the incident was addressed.

The school district says a crisis team is responding to the school to assist staff. Students were dismissed from school at 11 a.m.

Police are in the process of alerting the teacher's husband.
