Suspect surrenders in 'knockout game' attack
UPPER DARBY, Pa. (WPVI) -- Police say the suspect in a vicious 'knockout game' attack last week in Upper Darby, which was recorded on video and posted to Facebook, has surrendered.
Trent Epps, 18, of the 200 block of Huntley Road, was charged with simple assault, terroristic threats, recklessly endangering another person and harassment.
Police say he was convinced to turn himself in by his mother. Epps is being held on $100,000 cash bail.
"I don't think he'll be able to post himself on Facebook from prison," said Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood during a news conference on Wednesday.
Upper Darby Police say Epps is the young man clearly seen on smartphone video being egged on by three friends before violently punching a 58-year-old man in the head.
"Thank God they're not rocket scientists, because their own stupidity led to their arrests," said Chitwood.
The other three young men seen in the video are still being sought.
The victim, a 58-year-old man, was sitting at SEPTA's Aronimink Avenue trolley stop at Burmont Road and Morgan Avenue last Wednesday afternoon when he was attacked.
New bank surveillance video shows four men on the platform before one casually walked into the shelter and made his move.
"They need help. They need help. They need some kind of guidance of some kind, somehow," the victim said.
The victim who was nearly knocked unconscious decided to let it go and not call for help.
But those who saw the video on Facebook weren't so forgiving and alerted police.
The target of that sucker punch didn't let the young men scare him away from this stop. He said he felt 'disappointment' for the attackers.
"I should pray for them. What would I say to them? Don't disappoint your mother and father. Get on the right track and stay out of trouble and don't do it to nobody else," the victim said.
