Swedish police officers come to rescue in NYC
Stacey Sager has the story of a group of Swedish police officers who jumped into action after a brawl on a subway train.

NEW YORK (WPVI) -- Some police officers from Sweden who were visiting New York City found themselves jumping into action when a fight broke out on the subway.

"Everybody wait for the police, OK?"

Wait for the police? These guys are the police!

Actually in Sweden, but that was good enough Wednesday on the uptown number 6 train at Bleeker Street when authorities say one homeless man suddenly and senselessly began beating another.

Frightened straphangers had cleared the car except for one, who stuck around to shoot some video after the train operator reportedly pleaded on the intercom for any police officers on the train.

Well there were the four visiting from Sweden and they stepped in to separate the aggressor from his alleged victim.

Also, they worked to keep everyone calm.

"I think that's a very good job that they did," a commuter said.

The Swedish cops were on their way to see the Broadway show "Les Miserables" when the real life drama began.

The folks at "Les Miserables" told Eyewitness News they were prepared to offer the cops a free show and backstage experience, but as it turned out they got there on time, even after all of that.

While they declined Eyewitness News' interview requests, there's no doubt they took in the full New York experience.
