Police say a teen drowned while trying to return a ball to some kids.

KENNETT SQUARE, Pa. (WPVI) -- Officials say a 17-year-old died after drowning in a reservoir in Kennett Square, Chester County.

It happened just before 8:30 Thursday night in Nixon Park along the 100 block of Waterworks Drive.

Police say the teen boy was playing in the park when he tried to retrieve a soccer ball that fell into the water.

The boy went in the water but did not resurface.

Crews pulled the teen out and rushed him to Jennersville Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police say they are treating the incident as an accident.
