NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police are investigating the discovery of an unconscious 15-year-old girl in Northeast Philadelphia.

Officers say she was found around 7:45 p.m. Monday on the 7500 block of Roosevelt Boulevard in a wooded area on the outskirts of Pennypack Park.

Police say the student from the Community Academy of Philadelphia, a charter school, still had her uniform on when a passerby spotted her.

Investigators say the child had bruises on her shoulders and her thighs.

When she came to, police say she was able to tell them that she was on a crowded SEPTA Route 14 bus around 3:00 p.m.

When she stepped off to let other riders exit, the doors of the bus closed.

After not being able to get back on the bus, the girl started walking down the Boulevard when she says a man tried to talk to her.

She ignored him, but seconds later, she was knocked out from behind.

Police say she had a bump on the back of her head.

Paramedics transported the 15-year-old to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children. Police say the girl was not sexually assaulted, but are still uncertain of details pertaining to the alleged attack.

Police say her parents reported her missing around 7:00 p.m. after they called her cell phone dozens of times with no response.

Residents who walk the stretch of the Boulevard were surprised to hear about the attack.

"You can't let your children out of your sight. It's scary raising a child in this day and age," Danny Kay of Northeast Philadelphia said.

Philadelphia police are working with SEPTA on the investigation.

Action News has learned there is video of the victim on the Route 14 bus.
