A teenage girl remains hospitalized in stable condition after being shot several times in Southwest Philadelphia.

Tamesha Williams was one of the first to call police after the gunshots rang out just outside of her home along the 5900 block of Springfield Street.

"I heard four gunshots, and then after that I had seen a car go by," she told Action News.

"I called the cops," Williams continues. "The cops were here immediately, and then the guy came out the house and pulled the cops over and let them know that somebody was shot inside the house."

The call came in just after 12 a.m. Wednesday, and 12th District police officers responded.

They arrived on scene to find a 16-year-old girl with gunshot wounds from a high caliber gun in her right arm, right buttock and left chest area.

Williams says a crowd had gathered at the home beginning Wednesday afternoon for a barbeque.

Teenage girl shot in SW Philly: Jeannette Reyes reports during Action News at 5:30 a.m. on June 28, 2017.

"They were out since about 1:30 in the afternoon drinking and smoking," she said, "having a nice time before the kids even came out, and then that led on for a few hours."

At the time of the shooting the victim was sitting on the steps with several other girls and some boys.

"Everybody was really devastated," Williams said. "I know this one guy, I don't know if it was her son or cousin or whatever. He was most devastated of all. He was crying, hyperventilating, things like that."

The girl was put in the back of a police cruiser and rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where she remains in stable condition.

"She actually got up and walked toward the cop car," Williams said.

Meanwhile, at the scene, police found a number of shell casings scattered around the property.

They knocked on doors searching for evidence and are now relying on surveillance camera video for clues.

"We don't have a description of the shooter. We're just told a car was last seen speeding off west toward Springfield," said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small.

"There's a bunch of guys that live in that house, so I don't think she was the intended target," said Williams. "She was probably just an innocent bystander."
