MIDDLETOWN, Pa. (WPVI) -- A teenager slipped off a cliff and onto the ground near the Neshaminy Creek in Middletown, Bucks County.

Middletown Township Police Lt. John Michniewicz said around 4:20 p.m. Monday, a 14-year-old boy lost his footing on a cliff and fell approximately 20 feet to the ground.

The 14-year-old was seriously injured and had to be airlifted by medical helicopter to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

"He was conscious and alert, but I guess because of the fall he took, they weren't taking any chances," Michniewicz said.

Emergency responders had a difficult time trying to get to the boy in the heavily wooded area.

"It's a very inaccessible area. It's pretty tough to get to," Michniewicz said.

Police say the rope was taken down, but they wouldn't be surprised if kids put one back up again. They are urging parents to warn their kids not to go back there.

"It's not an area that we can patrol, you can't even see it from the roadway so it's not a safe area to go swimming, you never know what the currents are like. It takes a little while for emergency responders to get there when accidents happen," Michniewicz said.

The boy is in stable condition.
