Therapy dogs visit firefighters battling Soberanes Fire

BIG SUR, Calif. -- For the California firefighters on the front lines of the Soberanes wildfire, encouragement for the work they're doing comes in many forms.

Therapy dogs that normally visit hospitals and libraries were paying visits to firefighter camps.

Some crews had spent nearly two weeks on the fire lines, and the opportunity to pause for a moment with the dogs helped lift spirits.

"When you see your guys smiling and they're tired - they worked really hard yesterday - but they got time to come over and play with the dogs. It's kind of neat," said Santa Barbara firefighter Jim McCoy.

Many firefighters said the visits were especially significant since they hadn't been able to see their own pets for a while.
