Thief steals woman's purse from Kensington restaurant

KENSINGTON (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police are searching for a thief who stole a woman's purse from inside a restaurant in the city's Kensington section.

It happened on November 5 around 1:15 p.m.

Police say a 71-year-old woman accidentally left her purse inside the Happy Donut Restaurant located on the 1800 block of East Allegheny Avenue.

Shortly after, the suspect was caught on camera entering the restaurant.

He spots the bag on the floor and sits in the chair next to it, waiting for a customer to walk by.

When he's in the clear, he grabs her black leather bag and hides it under his shirt before fleeing the scene.

The woman's cell phone and $1,400 cash were inside the purse.

The suspect was last seen fleeing east on Allegheny Avenue

Police describe the suspect as a black or Hispanic male with a mustache. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, a black jacket, blue jeans and a red baseball cap. He also walks with a limp.
