A Utah judge has reversed his decision to remove a baby girl from her foster parents, based on their sexual orientation.

Juvenile Court Judge Scott Johansen ordered on Tuesday the 9-month-old be taken away from a married lesbian couple, and placed with a heterosexual family.

Johansen cited research claiming children do better when raised by a straight couple.

But after widespread backlash, including from the baby's biological mother, the judge signed an order on Friday allowing the girl to stay with her foster family.
