PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Three people are dead and several recovering from gunshot wounds after a violent night in Philadelphia.

One happpened around 3:45 a.m. Sunday.

Two people were shot, one fatally, in the 4700 block of James Street. That's in the city's Frankford section.

Police described the victims as a couple in their 40s.

The victim's next door neighbor was taken into custody.

Police say the suspect told officers he was arguing with his neighbors and then saw them climbing over his fence.

That's when, said Fuchs, "he came out with his gun and shot them both."

The man was killed. Police initially thought the woman had been killed, too.

But she was rushed by medics to Jefferson Aria Health's Torresdale facility and placed on life support.

Two more shooting incidents were reported in South Philadelphia.

Four men were shot at the corner of 22nd and Fitzwater Street just after 12 a.m. Sunday.

A witness describes several rounds being fired.

"I was on the phone, and I all of a sudden heard 'Pop! Pop! Pop!' Like, a lot. Definitely over ten," witness Lee Schemanski told Action News.

Police say there were actually more than three times that number of shots fired.

"We have about 34 shell casings," said Fuchs.

A 28-year-old man was pronounced dead.

Not far from that scene, another shooting was reported. It happened at the Riverview Apartments, where a man was shot and killed around 8 a.m. Sunday.

Philadelphia Police are asking anyone with any information about any of the shootings to report what they know.

Call your local police district or simply dial 911.
