A woman is hospitalized after being attacked by a dog at a home in Southwest Philadelphia.

SOUTHWEST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A woman is hospitalized after being attacked by a dog at a home in Southwest Philadelphia.

The incident happened before 8:00 a.m. Thursday in the 6000 block of Regent Street.

Police say a woman who lives in a home where several dogs are owned was viciously attacked by one of the animals.

There was no immediate word on her condition or what led to the incident, but the woman?s injuries were believed to be serious.

Medics took her to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

The dog which attacked the woman has been removed from the home by the Animal Care and Control Team of Philadelphia.

Officials were planning to meet with the victim at the hospital to get a clearer understanding of what happened.
