Woman escapes after being held hostage by her husband

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. (WPVI) -- A woman escaped after her husband shot her in the chest and held her hostage for 26 days at their California apartment.

The couple had an argument earlier this month in Rancho Cucamonga.

Police say the wife was packed and ready to leave when her husband shot her and kept her against her will, refusing to get her medical treatment.

Investigators say he nursed her wound to keep her alive.

This week, she finally got the courage to escape with her 7-year-old son, and she was able to make it to a hospital.

Her husband was arrested after a standoff with police.
