Woman found dead outside warehouse in South Philadelphia

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Authorities say a woman was found dead on the side of a warehouse near a busy area of South Philadelphia.

The discovery was made around 2:00 p.m. Sunday on South Dilworth Street between South Columbus Boulevard and Snyder Avenue.

Action News has learned that the woman was found with lacerations to her rib cage and thigh.

Police are investigating this as a 'suspicious' death but they are not sure if there was any foul play.

Sources say there were a number of bizarre, coincidental circumstances that led to the discovery and possible identification of the victim.

A passerby spotted the victim, described as a white female, 35-40 years old.

Police sources say they found a homeless man near the woman's body but it appears that he didn't know that she was dead.

That man was, however, brought in for questioning.

In another strange twist, family members of a South Philadelphia woman who has been missing for several days, just happened to be in the nearby shopping center.

They walked over when they saw the scene and showed investigators a picture of their missing loved one and her tattoos.

Sources tell Action News that there was a match but a positive identification has not officially been made.

The family members of the missing woman were brought to police headquarters for questioning as well.

The incident remains under investigation.
