Woman found stabbed to death in Chester home

CHESTER, Pa. (WPVI) -- A beloved member of the community has been murdered in Chester, and police as well as neighbors want to know who stabbed the 51-year-old woman to death and why.

Police were called out shortly after 12:00 a.m. Friday to the 900 block of Engle Street for a report of a stabbing.

"I don't understand why somebody would bother her because she never bother nobody. So I can't understand what took place... I don't see it," said Nate Smith.

No one in the neighborhood can figure out why 48-year-old Gwendolyn Williams was savagely murdered overnight.

Just after midnight she knocked on the backdoor of a home around the corner from her house. When her best friends let her in she stumbled to a kitchen chair, showed her multiple stab wounds, and died on the spot.

This is a normally quiet part of town. But last night it saw unspeakable tragedy, and devastating loss.

Her friend, Jackie Logan, tells us, "She was always here for me. Anytime I needed Gwendolyn, and called her, she would be here."

The police department is remaining tight-lipped.
