Police have charged a 21-year-old man with DUI after a deadly hit-and-run accident in Newark, Delaware.

NEWARK, Del. (WPVI) -- Police have charged a 21-year-old man with DUI after a deadly hit-and-run accident in Newark, Delaware.

Police say 22-year-old Amanda Hagelstein of New Castle and a friend were walking south on Chapel Street around 2:00 a.m. Sunday and attempted to cross Delaware Avenue.

Upon seeing an approaching 1994 Ford Ranger, police say the friend stopped in the roadway, however, Hagelstein began to run across the roadway and was struck by the vehicle.

Hagelstein was transported to Christiana Hospital where she died from injuries sustained in the collision.

Police say the driver of the vehicle, 21-year-old Kyle Loyd of Newark, left the scene, but was located a short time later by members of the Newark Police Street Crimes Unit.

Loyd was charged with the DUI and Leaving the Scene of a Collision Resulting in Death.

Loyd was released on $5,500 secured bond.
