Woman struck and killed in Delaware City, Del. ID'd

Police say a woman was struck and killed in Delaware City, Delaware Saturday evening.

The accident occurred just after 6:00 p.m. on the 900 block of Cox Neck Road and South Dupont Highway.

Paramedics arrived to find 78-year-old Jean L. Caricchio of Newark, Delaware.

She had been hit by a vehicle and suffered head and internal injuries.

According to police, Caricchio walked into the westbound travel lane, directly into the path of a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the driver in the striking vehicle did stop and was not injured.

The accident remains under investigation.
