Philadelphia police are investigating after a pedestrian was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Holmesburg.

HOLMESBURG (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police are investigating after a woman was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Holmesburg.

It happened just before 5:30 p.m. Friday near the Holmesburg Station at Rhawn Street and State Road.

Police say a woman was struck and killed by a southbound Amtrak train (New York to Harrisburg Keystone Service).

Service inbound to Philadelphia from Trenton on SEPTA's Trenton Line was suspended while police investigated and cleared the scene.

Passengers on the striking Amtrak train were put on another train.

The victim's identity has not been released at this time.
