Army veteran searches for lost service dog in Newark

NEWARK, Del. (WPVI) -- For nearly two weeks, Army veteran Lori Bilyou and her husband Guy have been desperately searching their Newark neighborhood for her missing service dog.

The two were paired together two years ago, when Bilyou returned from Afghanistan.

Ozzy, a gray colored Goldendoodle, is her mobility dog. He also helps her cope with PTSD.

"He's been taking care of me for two years, and now he needs me to take care of him," said Lori. "I can't do it unless I catch up with him."

Lori said she was gardening when Ozzy had a seizure.

"In seizure mode, his brain and body took over," she said. "He jumped over the wall and through a fence and took off running."

Hoping to track Ozzy down, the Bilyous use night vision cameras along popular trails and set food out for him.

"We've almost been able to get close," said Lori. "But then someone has come along and tried to help by catching or collaring him and then he takes off."

Even strangers have been helping spread the word.

"Especially given that he's a service dog, as well," said Dianne Long of Newark. "I would want someone to do this for me."

Everyone is rallying to help Ozzy, who is wandering around Newark sick and alone.

Ozzy has been spotted a couple of times in the area, but his owners have been unable to link up with him.

Volunteers will be passing out flyers in the area on Tuesday when children are trick or treating, in the hopes of reuniting him with his family.
