Shelter Me: Luv-N-Bunns
Shelter Me: Luv-N-Bunns. David Murphy reports during Action News at 9 a.m. on October 21, 2017.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Every year, thousands of domesticated rabbits are found abandoned and abused.

Luv-N-Bunns based in the Philadelphia area is dedicated to taking in these unwanted animals and finding them forever homes.

"A lot of people put them outside when they don't want them anymore, they can't survive," says Luv-N-Bunns Board Member Elizabeth Luczysyn.

There are a lot of misconceptions about owning and caring for these creatures.

They eat mainly timothy hay and require two to four hours of exercise a day.

"They also like a lot of straw toys it keeps their teeth ground down," says Luczysyn.

These social creatures thrive on companions.

"They seem to benefit from the other one, you see them licking each other's ears and snuggling," Luczysyn says.

Bonding plays an important role, and Luv-N-Bunns sets it all up.

"Bunny date night happens a lot. We put on the music, some candles and you put them together and we see who we can match up," says Luczysyn.

Hannah is spayed, and looking for some "bunny" to love.

"She is very sweet, and she is very good with her litter box," Luczysyn says.

Peebles is a male Lionhead, who is always having a good hair day. He is a social guy, who will burrow his way into your heart.

Eleanor is also a Lionhead, who loves to be pet almost as much as she likes to eat.

"She likes her carrots and treats, hay or greens she's really loving it," says Luczysyn.

Twila is a young bunny, about two or three years old. When Luv-N-Bunns found her she was without food and hay, but now she's adapted to a regular feeding schedule and is already a pro at using her litter box.
